HR Tip of the Week: New Overtime Rule Proposed
The US Department of Labor has proposed an increase in the minimum annual salary for exempt status from $23,660 to $35,308. If enacted, a large number of employees will be newly qualified for overtime pay. Although the rule is not in effect, employers should audit their exempt and non-exempt workforces now to determine whether to alter job duties for re-classification, mitigate hours worked, or increase wages to exceed minimum requirement for exemption in lieu of paying overtime.
