HR Tip of the Week: New Overtime Rule Expected to Take Effect

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) is soon expected to set a new salary threshold for white-collar exemptions to overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The latest proposal, if finalized, will raise the salary threshold from $23,660 to $35,308.  Employers should start planning now.  Pull data for exempt workers earning close to the new threshold to examine if re-classification as hourly employees may be appropriate, and review job descriptions to ensure exempt positions meet all requirements, including duties tests, set forth for the classification.  Read more insights on the DOL ruling and implementation.
