Candidate ID: 21794
Director or Senior-level position: – Supply Chain Management – Logistics Management – Operations Management – Program Management – Project Management
Industries worked in or interested in: I am open to any industry. Though my experience lies within a military context, it can easily be applied to other areas, as all industries require Operations/Logistics/Supply Chain Managers.
About Me
I am a transitioning Marine Lieutenant Colonel with 21 years of leadership experience and a proven record of driving organizational change, improving teams, and exceeding operational goals. A Logistics Officer by trade, I am well-versed in managing supply chains, transportation, maintenance, and other logistical operations.
Candidate's Information
- Education / Training: I obtained a Masters of Military Studies from Marine Corps University in 2014, finishing with a 4.0 gpa. I received my undergraduate degree, a Bachelors of Science in Psychology, from Truman State University in 1999.
As a Marine Corps Logistics Officer, I completed various courses covering supply chain, maintenance, and transportation management as well as safety, facilities, and contracting. I also completed multiple courses covering operations; more specifically, humanitarian and disaster relief, crisis response, and others. In addition, I served three assignments (7 of 21 years) on recruiting duty where I completed training in sales and sales force management. - Experience, Highlights & Achievements: During my career, I led teams ranging in size from 90 to 500-plus Marines and Sailors, overseeing their personal and professional development and well-being. As a logistician, I managed the transportation, supply chain, maintenance, contracting, facilities, and other logistical needs for operations involving thousands of personnel spread across multiple states and/or countries, in highly dynamic and often chaotic situations. Planning and executing those evolutions required meticulous oversight and detailed coordination with multiple agencies, both in and outside the Marine Corps, as well the ability to effectively communicate intent to a broad range of personnel from truck drivers and warehousemen to department heads (e.g., supply, maintenance, engineering, etc.) and senior executives. It also required the ability to think through complex problems, planning ahead for potential obstacles to ensure seamless operations. I regularly drafted policies, briefed C-suite personnel, ensured safety and environmental requirements were met, and developed and enforced standard operating procedures for facilities, maintenance management, and other related areas.
Though I held many positions throughout my 21 years, there was one constant – elevated performance levels for every section/unit I managed. While serving as a Recruiting Station Commanding Officer, I led a 93-man team spread across four states from a bottom third ranking to one of the top four positions [of 48] nationally. As the 12th Marine Corps District’s Director of Recruiting Operations, I managed 8 Recruiting Stations, 112 substations, and 815 personnel spread across 1.1 million miles of the western United States ensuring the district met 100 percent of its required contracting and shipping missions, while also finishing number one nationally for quality metrics. As the head of logistics for an infantry regiment, I instituted policies and procedures that transformed a previously failing material readiness program (e.g., supply and maintenance management) into the top performing one with the 2d Marine Division (20K personnel, 18 battalions/4 regiments), resulting in superb inspection results, the highest equipment readiness rates, increased asset accountability, and tens of thousands in savings in supply chain transactions, while also supporting countless operations and exercises. As the Commanding Officer of a 458-man logistics unit with $62M in assets, my team produced the top inspections results of any unit within the 2d Marine Logistics Group (7900 personnel, 12 battalions/2 regiments) in 2017 and 2019, along with the highest equipment readiness levels and one of the highest personnel retention rates, while also supporting multiple exercises and crisis response operations in Africa. - Skills & Qualifications: With two decades of experience, I am highly skilled at managing operations, projects, and programs. My mind is hard wired to look for the most efficient and effective way of doing things and I thoroughly enjoy analyzing processes to determine the best way to achieve those end states. I enjoy public speaking, working in stressful and chaotic conditions, and simultaneously balancing multiple projects. With seven years recruiting experience, I am also well-versed at directing marketing and public affairs efforts.
As much as I enjoy managing operations, leading people is what I am truly passionate about. Despite receiving a number of personal accolades throughout my career, it was helping others achieve success that I took the most pride in. As a Company Commander, Recruiting Station Commander, and Battalion Commander my Marines regularly outperformed their peers, achieving the highest promotion rates, most meritorious promotions (i.e., advancement ahead of peers), and the most personal awards, while also choosing to re-enlist at higher rates. I believe a leader’s role is to set conditions for others to be successful; when done properly, the success of that leader and the organization are simply byproducts of each team members’ individual accomplishments. Managers direct efforts, but leaders inspire others to do great things. The Marine Corps gave me the opportunity to inspire and lead some phenomenal men and women over the past 21 years and I am eager to find a new organization that will allow me to do the same. - Work Status Desired: Full-time
